A conversation during a drinking session has led Prime Cruz to develop the premise of Star Cinema’s “My Love Will Make You Disappear.” The ABS-CBN romantic comedy marked Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino’s big screen debut, directed by Chad Vidanes with screenplay by Patrick Valencia and Isabella Policarpio.

The release date is on March 26 in cinemas nationwide, followed by international screenings in 34 countries.

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” tells the story of Sari (played by Kim), who believes that she’s meant to be single because of a curse: every time she kisses a man she loves, he disappears. She then meets Jolo (Paulo) whom she develops a close connection with, but their relationship is threatened by the curse.

“It started when I was drinking with a friend who’s brokenhearted. He said to me, ‘Bakit ba lahat ‘pag nagseseryoso na ako, they suddenly disappear?’ Maybe because we were drunk at that time, so I imagined it literally — nawala yung sinasabi niyang person. That’s how the concept started,” Prime recalled at a mediacon.

Writers Patrick and Isabella, on the other hand, shared they enjoyed writing the script for the film.

“After a long time, ngayon ulit mag-true blue romcom ang Star Cinema. Like what Kim said earlier, this is a breath of fresh air,” stated Patrick.

They were thrilled to bring kilig to the cinema audience as well. “It’s unapologetically romcom. That’s our goal when we started writing this movie.”

Isabella agreed and admitted she was nervous at first when the project was given to them because she isn’t the “natural lover girl” type. “But because of the script, kailangan mo talagang ilabas kasi kilig talaga siya.”

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” is all about “good vibes, happiness and love,” she said. “So, while writing, that’s what we were thinking — our own experiences, our own love and kilig. Putting it all out in the script.”

On how they approached writing a timeless romcom, Patrick said they always begin with “very real and relatable characters.”

As he elaborated, “Very now sila, which make the people say, ‘I knew someone who’s like that.’ They could relate or even that person could relate to the characters. We always start with that, where they could relate to the character’s pain, sa pinagdadaanan nila and even sa takbo ng character in the story. And the fact that it’s a love story, it will always be relevant and timeless.”

Meanwhile, Kim and Paulo were asked what are the factors that could make their feelings disappear for someone.

For Kim, it differs. “(There are) different levels of love. Of course, ‘pag niloko ka, mag-disappear ka na. ‘What? You will remain stupid?’ If you’ve been cheated on, you leave that person. You have to prioritize yourself and self-love. As what they say, if you don’t love yourself enough, you will leave yourself hurting over and over again.”

Paulo simply concurred with what Kim said.

Kim and Paulo are joined by Wilma Doesn’t, Lovely Abella, Benj Manalo, Nico Antonio, Migs Almendras, Martin Escudero, Karina Bautista, Jeremiah Lisbo, and other cast members in “My Love Will Make You Disappear.”
