Hidilyn at Julius nagpa-tattoo kay Apo Whang-Od
MANILA, Philippines — Bukod sa kanyang Olympic Games symbol tattoo ay nagpadagdag pa si Tokyo Games gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz ng isang traditional tattoo kay legendary tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od.
Nagtungo si Diaz kasama ang asawang si Julius Naranjo sa Buscalan Native Kalinga Village para magpalagay ng tattoo sa 107-anyos na si Whang-Od.
Isang three-dot signature ang pinalagay ng national lady weightlifter sa likod ng kanyang kaliwang braso.
Isang sleeve tattoo naman mula kay Grace, ang prodigy ni Whang-Od, ang pinalagay ni Naranjo sa kaliwang braso niya.
“Last week I had the chance to meet a living legend in (Apo Whang-Od) and I was quickly reminded that I was actually with two living legends. One culturally and one through sports, (Hidilyn). Both women embody strength & empower beauty through their talents and achievements,” kuwento ni Naranjo sa kanyang social media post.
Noong Pebrero 14 ay tinanggap ni Whang-od ang Presidential Medal of Merit mula kay President Bongbong Marcos, Jr.
Kasalukuyang tumutulong sina Diaz at Naranjo sa mga batang weightlifters.
“Much like Grace is keeping Apo Whang-Od’s traditional alive, I feel the same with what we are doing for grassroots here in the Philippines. I feel this sense of pride in giving back to the community and giving kids the opportunity to make something of their lives. Much like my Filipino grandfather had joined the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, and giving his adopted children the opportunity at a better life, things do come in full circle, and I’m for it,” ani Naranjo.
