It was an evening of elegance and sophistication as the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines (JSSP) recently held its annual gala night at the well-appointed lobby lounge of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. The moving light of the evening, JSSP president Olga Martel, ensured the success of the event, highlighted by the presence of Dr. Ernest Hoetzl. The latter flew in all the way from Austria to conduct the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra whose world-class talent showcased the ingenuity and passion of Filipino musicians. Makati Shangri-La Hotel GM and Shangri-La Hotels area manager Reto Klauser ensured that acoustics were at par with that of a concert hall, making the event more enjoyable for everyone.
The entire lobby lounge was also beautifully bedecked with long-stemmed red roses, courtesy of Bloomwoods Flowershop, Inc. Lexus Manila also brought in one of its most stylish cars to add glamour to the event. Friends from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, CATS Motors, Inc. led by its president Felix Ang, San Miguel Corp. and William Kho also extended their support for the posh gathering.
The program started with an invocation by JSSP director Fanny Blanco followed by JSSP chairman, Monaco Consul General Fortune Ledesma, who welcomed members and special guests to the glamorous gathering. JSSP president Olga Martel then talked about the society’s mission and vision in line with the celebration, which aims to help those who are in need. This year, JSSP is extending a helping hand to Save-a-Child, an organization that aims to make the lives of children better.
Austrian Ambassador Wilhelm Donko gave an inspirational message about the essence and purpose of the organization. Perhaps, the most talked about part of the evening would be the number that showcased the combination of the music of Johann Strauss and the Filipino folk song Magtanim Ay ‘Di Biro plus excerpts from the great local talent that was Philippine National Artist Felipe de Leon.
Members of the diplomatic corps from Italy, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Brunei and other nations were present to revel in the festive gathering of nations, cultures and bright minds.
Bravo and congratulations to Consul General Fortune Ledesma, Olga Martel and directors Fanny Blanco, Gambia Consul Agnes Huibonhoa, Virginia Lane and Tanzania Consul Betty Chua for another magnificent annual gala!
