(An open letter to the Department of Education Secretary)
Great day po Madam Secretary!
I’m presently teaching in a private school in Calamba City, Laguna, one of those aspiring educators desiring not only to make a difference in the lives of our less-privileged learners, but also to obtain a good salary and retirement package. I’m a product of the public school system myself.
My main concern is the non-hiring of senior high school (SHS) teacher-applicants under the Division Office (DO) of Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The DO’s list of SHS registered qualified applicants (RQA) for school year (SY) 2018-2019 came out only on the second week of September. That very day, the officer-in-charge (OIC) of a certain public SHS in Los Baños, Laguna called me up and we had immediately discussed, that same day, the promising likelihood of my imminent transfer, considering that, the following day, she swiftly furnished the DO a copy of her recommendation of my employability as validated by my high ranking in the RQA.
All of this was done in order to expedite the process since there was an obvious need as indicated by the OIC.
