MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Audit (COA) has commended the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) for producing the best high school graduates worthy of government scholarship grants.
In a 2013 report, state auditors said products of the academic institution’s main campus (MC) in Quezon City are living up to the school’s standards.
“The MC is producing quality high school graduates in line with its mission of preparing its students in careers in science and technology (S&T) based on the high passing mark of its graduates on competitive examinations for scholarship grants and the honors and awards they received in college, the report said.
State auditors said the mission of the PSHS is to provide scholarships in secondary education to Filipino students with high aptitude in science and mathematics; prepare its students in careers in S&T, and attain a critical mass of professionals and leaders in science and technology for nation building.
Results of the evaluation based on the records from the registrar’s office, guidance counselor’s office, and annual reports disclosed that of the total 1,587 applicants from 2007 to 2013 for the UPCAT, 98.61 percent or 1,565 MC graduates qualified for the scholarship.
For seven consecutive years, the COA report said graduating students of the MC have consistently maintained top rankings in the UPCAT with the most number of graduates who qualified to pursue their tertiary education in the UP System.
“MC graduates produced five 1st placers, two 2nd placers and five 3rd placers in the fields of engineering licensure examinations for Batch 2001-2008,” the audit report said.
