Brent spearheads ‘Schools for Schools’ reconstruction project in Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines - The Brent International School Manila, Inc. (BISM) has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) for the reconstruction of two public schools in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, one of the areas devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda last year.

BISM will spearhead the “Schools for Schools” project that aims to reconstruct and rehabilitate Guian National High School and Lupok Central Elementary School, focusing mainly on cement work, roofing, windows and doors, toilet, water pipes, and electrical systems.

“Brent, and all of its partners and friends, is working very hard to get as many classrooms ready in time for the school opening in June,” BISM Headmaster Dick Robbins said.

“The Schools for Schools project will also extend to providing educational materials through DepEd, as well as hosting trainings and workshops to teachers of the recipient schools,” he said.

DepEd said about 5,900 classrooms in the Visayas region and Palawan were totally ruined while 14,508 were partially damaged by the typhoon which struck Eastern Visayas on Nov. 8 last year.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has donated P2 billion to the DepEd for the repair and reconstruction of approximately 2,000 damaged classrooms.
