BDO donates cars to Don Bosco’s automotive training centers
MANILA, Philippines - BDO Unibank through BDO Foundation donated recently six units of Chery cars, with a value of P1.7 million to the Don Bosco Foundation for use in its automotive training centers in Cebu, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Makati City and Manila.
BDO first donated in 2009 five vans to the Don Bosco Foundation, which trains indigents and out of school youths on automotive repair, to prepare them for jobs in auto shops here and abroad.
“Of the six Chery cars, two units will go to Don Bosco in Pasil, Cebu; one in Tondo; one for Chino Roces Avenue in Makati City; and one each in Calauan, Laguna and San Jose City in Nueva Ecija,†Maureen Abelardo explained.
The donation of six units of Chery cars was covered by a deed of donation signed by BDO Unibank president Nestor Tan and Don Bosco Foundation national treasurer Fr. Gregorio Bicomong and Bro. Edward Villordon, treasurer of Don Bosco (Pasil, Cebu) Youth Center Inc. and witnessed by BDO Foundation president Maureen Abelardo and BDO Foundation trustee Jesus Tirona.
Fr. Bicomong said “the car donation represents the dream of many poor young people for a better life through gainful employment, which is just in keeping with the vision of BDO to build the dreams of the young people for a better tomorrow.â€
The auto mechanic course of Don Bosco is composed of 70 percent hands-on training and 30 percent theory, reason why some of the donated units are knocked down to be studied and re-assembled. The graduates usually end up getting employed in Porsche, Toyota, and Ford Service Centers.
Don Bosco Automotive Training Centers will benefit a lot from the donated car units for the students to study and for use by the training centers as a service vehicle.
