EDITORIAL — Haters gonna hate

Two people recently faced criticism for their actions related to the massive floods currently happening in Luzon.

One was actress Ivana Alawi who was bashed by critics after a video of her distributing relief goods on a flooded road went viral. Critics said she was exploiting the poor to her advantage.

The other was Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda who was criticized after wearing a designer outfit while inspecting flood-hit areas under her jurisdiction. Critics said her outfit of the day was “insensitive” to the plight of those suffering the floods.

We believe that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but we also believe the criticisms are undeserved and unjust.

We say to those two to keep doing what they are doing; there’s no need for them to justify their actions or apologize for perceived offenses.

There’s no pleasing everyone; there will always be people who will complain about what others are doing and point out faults just because they are inclined to do so. These are the same people who are likely to get offended by almost anything.

When you think about it, at least Alawi was doing something to help others in need, which is more than what some of her bashers are doing. Her bashers were probably just jealous they couldn’t be seen doing good deeds online themselves.

When you think about it, Pineda was just doing her job and dressing up as befitting someone in her position. She was in a “damned if you, damned if you don’t” situation; if she showed up in designer clothes she was going to get bashed for dressing too good, if she showed up shabbily dressed she was still going to get bashed for dressing too bad. Her bashers were probably just jealous they don’t have designer clothes.

Like we said, there’s no pleasing everyone, especially those looking for any reason to criticize. Just let them be. Like some youths today say, haters gonna hate.
