Living a life with meaning
We all clamor for happiness in life. However, many people equate having good looks, wealth, power, influence with happiness. These are shallow, fleeting feelings that many people, despite having all these, still feel a deep void, an emptiness in life.
Researchers have found that some people feel happy when receiving things or services from others. Others feel joyful and derive meaning when giving and using their talent to share something larger than themselves.
A person’s well-being and life satisfaction are greatly enhanced by leading a purposeful, meaningful life… his/her mental and physical health are improved, self-esteem is enhanced, the level of depression is decreased and resilience in difficult times is stronger. Conversely, people who single-mindedly pursue happiness are less happy.
Happiness is an emotion we feel every now and then, which fades away. On the other hand, a life with meaning is enduring, transcends the present moment and, with a defined life purpose, gives higher life satisfaction. Indeed, there is so much more to good life and fleeting happiness... when life is devoted to sharing and lived meaningfully!
Recent events have clearly proven that wealth and power illegally acquired can bring downfall, thus causing immeasurable pain, heartaches and dishonor.
Peace, good health, safety and abundance to us all!
