Continuing Love Our Earth 2024 February Campaign
Two years back, both the start of Lent and Valentine’s Day fell on the same date! Notice too that the word or letters LENT are in the middle of the term vaLENTine!
That 2024 VaLENTine Day will forever be a memorable one for RCE-CEBU (Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development).
With partners from Region 7’s DENR, DEPED, DSWD, EMB represented by their regional directors, we signed a pledge of commitment “to work together in pursuing the ‘Love Our Earth February Campaign’ by making personalized ecobrick from plastic wastes we use every day, to adopt doable ways in practicing circular economy, support eco-friendly products and promote the no-single-use-plastics in our establishments and offices.”
We jointly pledged “to do this with dynamism, collaborative spirit, and a sense of urgency in order to attain our objectives in a timely manner encompassing all sectors of society as it is high time to accelerate these actions and transition to a circular economy and it is time to #BEATPLASTICPOLLUTION.”
For this campaign, through a common infomat shared subsequently through our networks, we enjoined everyone to join the Love Our Earth February Campaign to make their own personal ecobrick and help save the earth following these easy steps: 1.) Find an empty PET bottle; 2.) Remove the label and put it inside the bottle; 3.) Collect and store all daily plastic wastes inside this ecobrick; 4.) Weigh personal ecobricks to know how much plastics one responsibly kept away from the dumpsites/sanitary landfills.
Since then and till now, that 2024 February Love Our Earth Campaign through personal ecobricks is still continuing among expanded networks of partners. To cite some laudable practices of partners, we are happy to share the following updates - Ms. Minette (Filomena Su-Ramo) and husband Boni of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals, (BCBP South Chapter) shared photos of their ecobricks delivered to CCENRO last January 29!
Ms. Marilou Cañizares of ZONTA and their partners (from barangays and women groups) also shared their collected ecobricks for pick-up and delivery (through EMB John Kyamko’s help) to TUFFWOW (Toledo United Farmers, Fishermen, and Women Workers). This cooperative grinds the ecobricks and other plastics to produce construction bricks, a very good model for circularity of plastic!
Cabangcalan 2 Elementary School, through their former principal Jessica Wenceslao, was among a few selected global partners to present their school ecobrick campaign project at the recently-concluded Osaka Expo 2025! At Subangdaku Elementary School where she is now assisting principal, Ms. Wenceslao has continued the ecobrick campaign but had to momentarily stop last December for lack of storage and because of the construction of their gym.
It was the Cabangcalan Barangay Council, led by Barangay Captain Francis Remedio and Councilman Bobot Belen, who organized and encouraged the Cabancalan 2 Elementary School to join the Love Our Earth 2024 February Campaign.
We are happy to share that their barangay council will meet this Monday to explore offering incentives/rewards to barangay constituents actively participating in their proposed widened segregated waste management campaign.
RCE-Cebu continues to offer voluntary hybrid trainings for segregated waste management options so that everyone will join forces to more responsibly avoid, reduce, and manage their wastes in a circular fashion and with all contributing to protecting our people and our planet. If interested to have this free training, please contact us at [email protected].
Barangay Luz and partners like Waste PH, should be cited for their laudable waste management campaign, including exchanging collected wastes with rice and other goods.
Come/join our continuing LOVE OUR EARTH campaign!
