Lies we tell ourselves
The biggest lies we tell ourselves:
1.) If everyone would be a member of MY political party, everything would be perfect.
2.) If everyone was a member of MY religion, the world would be perfect.
3.) If everyone would do what I want as far as love relationships, everything would be perfect. (i.e. gender choices, religious choices, preferred ages, nationality differences, skin color, etc.)
Examples of common self-deceptions:
1.) That you can't achieve a goal ("I can't do it")
2.) The belief that happiness is based on a future event or possession. ("If I could just have that, then my life would be amazing.”)?
3.) That a problem will disappear on its own. ("If I ignore it, it will go away").
Other common lies we tell ourselves are:
1.) "I have to be perfect."
2.) "What will people think?" This can stop a person from fully actualizing their potential success and personal happiness. Is everyone really judging you? Or just a few out of 8 billion? Ask yourself: Is it YOUR life, or THEIR life?
3.) "My self-worth is determined by my work." (The truth is you have worth regardless if you have great skills or not.)
We also have self-deceptions. These are the lies that limit your potential. They might prevent you from trying things which you are capable of doing.
1.) "I'll start tomorrow."
2.) "I don't have a choice." The feeling that you are powerless to change your circumstances. You always have a choice in your attitude and response.
3.) “If I had more time, I would do it.” ?
Which of the lies above do you say to yourself most often? What lies are missing from the list?
How to fight back:
1.) Read about "positive affirmations." Example: "Every day in every way I'm getting better and better!" ( Say this 20 times a day.)
2.) Stop waiting for the perfect moment.
Start with what you have now and make progress. Don't get lost trying to be perfect. Just keep moving forward on your goals.
