Let us march as one nation, one people!

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Ballescas - The Freeman

Every Filipino is invited by Pablo Virgilio Cardinal “Ambo” David, Bishop of Kalookan and president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, “to take an active part in safeguarding democracy, (as) the fight against corruption “belongs to everyone, not just a few.”

Cardinal Ambo called on every Filipino citizen 1) to ”demand accountability from public officials, warning that corruption will continue unless those responsible are made answerable for their actions;” 2) to stay vigilant against a worsening culture of dishonesty in government which will not improve “if those who should be held accountable are not held to account,” 3) to tell the “officials who act like “parasitic worms” feeding on the nation’s lifeblood that “wrong is wrong,” 4) to denounce the persistent pork barrel pushed by “shameless politicians and that corruption “should never be normalized.”

Addressing leaders, this reminder from Cardinal Ambo “Do not destroy the trust of the nation. Let us not allow lies to prevail; only truth should reign.”

Together with other church leaders and lay convenors/partners, Cardinal Ambo enjoined all to participate in the Second “Trillion Peso March” (TPMM) on November 30, in coordination with other “protest actions set to take place nationwide—from EDSA’s People Power Monument to Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, and other cities.”

Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, Bishop of the Diocese of Kidapawan and President of Caritas Philippines, also called on Filipinos to join the November 30 Second Trillion Peso March, stressing that “this is not just a protest but a fight against corruption as a moral duty, urging Filipinos to stand for truth, justice, and the future of the nation.”

A TPMM Unity Statement” reiterated that the November 30 mobilization is a collective demand for truth: “Ilantad ang mga criminal, Ibalik ang pera ng bayan, Ikulong ang mga kurakot, Para ipanalo ang sambayanang Pilipinas.”

Filipinos are urged to stand together as “the fight against corruption is a fight for “the kaluluwa at diwa ng ating bansa, at para sa kinabukasan ng ating Kabataang Pilipino."

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy has issued a province-wide appeal to all peace-loving Cebuanos to join “SuPaKK: Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon” (also dubbed the Second Cebu Trillion Peso March) on November 30, Sunday—a collective, prayerful stand for truth, integrity, good governance, and the protection of our common home.”

Archbishop Abet stressed- “Truth must reign. Integrity must rise. For Cebu. For our nation. For future generations. Let us stand as one community”

In his invitation to the November 30 SuPaKK, Archbishop Abet noted:

“Corruption is not only a political issue; it is a moral disease, a spiritual crisis, and a grave sin against God and neighbor.

We gather not to stir division, not to provoke violence, not to endorse any political group—but to stand together as one moral voice, declaring: enough with corruption, enough with deception, enough with systems that hurt the poor and betray the common good.

We gather as citizens whose love for Cebu and the Philippines springs from our love for God. We gather as a people who believe that faith without justice is empty, that devotion without integrity is hypocrisy, and that silence in the face of wrongdoing is complicity.

Let us show our children what it means to be truly Christian—not only in name, but in life… not only in churches, but in society.

Let us pray together. Walk together. Stand together. Witness together.

Evil triumphs when good people remain silent.

Corruption grows when honest citizens lose courage.

But when God’s people rise—not in violence, but in prayer…not in hatred, but in moral conviction—something powerful happens: society begins to heal.

Let us walk for integrity.

Let us walk for our children, for our nation.”

Let us walk as one nation, one people!
