EDITORIAL — When vlogging and drugging mix

From our sister publication BANAT News comes to us this report of a vlogger in Bohol Province who was arrested after he bragged about his drug use online and even invited bashers to come to his house so they can have a drug session.

Last week, police arrested in Purok 4, Barangay Macaas, Tubigon town, the suspect identified as Mark Angelo Abucejo, 25, who went by the vlogger name “Gegel”. He was found with 10 grams of suspected shabu worth an estimated ?68,000 in a buy-bust operation.

What led the police to his activities? His posts about his drug use and drug business and that mentioned invitation to use drugs in his house.

This should serve as a lesson for all those who want to try their hand at vlogging or any venture that requires one to become public online or maintain a regular online journal; not everything has to be told to everyone.

This is one mistake many of them make; laying too much out there, making public things of things that should be kept secret, turning your private life into an open book.

This should also serve as a lesson against drug use. You may end up not thinking clearly like Abucejo was. Could he have been so addled with drugs his courage --or his recklessness-- got the better of him and he decided to go public with what he was doing? Was his common sense so gone he didn’t realize anyone, including police, could see his posts?

But then again, we suppose we should be thankful that Abucejo decided to come out with his vice and drug business to all and sundry; the police found him quickly and have ready evidence against him. We can say that he literally took himself off the streets. And his being arrested means one less bad influence online and in real life.
