Mama Mary’s assumption and faithline
Yesterday, August 15, we celebrated the Assumption of our Mama Mary into heaven.
“Mary is taken up to heaven; a chorus of angels exults.”
“Taken up into heaven, Mary shows us the way to God, the way to heaven, the way to life.” (St. Pope John Paul II).
Some reflection points related to Mama Mary’s Assumption:
One, her faithful obedience and love for God and his will.
During the Annunciation, she readily answered - “Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to Thy Word.” And she never looked back.
Mama Mary is considered “blessed among women,” and blessed because of the “fruit of her womb, Jesus. And “blessed because she believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
Mary confirmed why she served/loved the Lord in her Magnificat: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked upon his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and to his children forever.”
Two, as Mother of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, she remained humble/unassuming/never demanding.
Mama Mary profoundly understood her role/mission for God by always prioritizing/ acknowledging the divinity of her son.
In Cana, when she told Jesus that the wine was all gone, she was not offended even when Jesus replied to her – “Woman, what is that to you and to Me? My time has not yet come.”
Instead, she acknowledged that Jesus was the one to decide what next to do by telling the servants – “Do as He says.”
Jesus told the servants to fill the water pots with water which he changed into choice wine, his first divine miracle at Cana.
Third, amidst calm and storms, joy and pain, from his birth at the manger and up to his death on the Cross, Mama Mary stood by Jesus, faithful to God and his will for her.
Not only is she the Mother of Christ, the Mother of the Church. Mama Mary is our, is everyone’s mother who showed us what love for God and his will means.
She was assumed into heaven because of her deep love/faithful devotion to God and his will for her, for the rest of humanity.
Her life/love serves as inspiration for us all to emulate, as the way back to God, the way to life now and forever.
