EDITORIAL — The Kiss Cam affair

You might have already heard about the couple having an affair that got outed during a Coldplay concert in Boston last week.

When featured in the Kiss Cam, where couples shown in the huge LED display are encouraged to show their affection for one another, instead of kissing, they couple broke apart and shied away from the camera in the most scandalous of fashions.

“Either they're having an affair or they're very shy,” joked Coldplay singer Chris Martin.

It turned out to be an affair as both were married to different people.

The incident went viral, then began to have a life of its own. It has been mimicked and parodied in memes and online photographs. People have even reenacted their own version of the incident when shown on widescreen displays in sporting or other public gatherings.

Others joked that the band made four singles that night. Some are now even saying the word “coldplayed” should mean exposing an affair.

But behind all the levity, the incident had its consequences. It turns out the man involved was a CEO of a multibillion dollar startup while the woman was its HR manager.

The CEO has resigned from the company and there is now talk of a hefty divorce settlement forthcoming for his wife. The HR manager is staying put, but there are now speculations that her new marriage might not last long.

Check the news; what is supposed to be something private is now being reportedly on daily.

Is there really a need to drag out what his happening for all the world to see? Well, we certainly can’t blame people on the internet for doing what they did or how they are reacting. It became public after all.

At the risk of sounding preachy, we have to say that if there had been no affair there would have been no scandal. Or even that if they had been more discreet about their affair then they wouldn’t have been found out and made infamous.

We don’t want to call the two out for their behavior, but then again we shouldn’t ask the internet to stop from having a heyday of this event either. Let the netizens have their fun, this affair will die a natural death soon after another more interesting scandal comes along.
