A channel of nonsense

Anne Sanchez - The Freeman

I am active on social media such as Instagram and YouTube. I highlight the various livelihoods in our country, as well as our culture and the daily lives of our people. If there is an opportunity to help, we do so. In short, we only highlight what is good. We never threaten, harass, disrupt, or do anything that makes no sense. However, some vloggers will do anything for likes, shares, and subscribers.

For example, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy is a Russian who has a YouTube channel with over 10 million subscribers. Most of the content on his channel is just nonsense. You can see it for yourself. Some of his antics are disruptive, even frightening to some people. The sad thing is that many people like this Russian have YouTube channels that do exactly that. But as far as I know, many countries, particularly in Asia, are getting tired of the antics of these vloggers.

Zdorovetskiy has made his way into the country and has started doing mischief like grabbing a security guard's hat, pretending to steal a scooter, pranking women, pretending to be a dog, threatening to rob a woman and even cursing her for wearing a face mask and picking up an electric fan from a restaurant and bringing it to his room at the Shangri-La Hotel BGC. He is also accused of verbally assaulting a surfing instructor in Boracay with “vulgar, sexually degrading remarks” and even wanting to destroy both his reputation and livelihood.

If he wants attention, he's got it. Authorities have already arrested and detained him. He is facing charges of cybercrime, unjust vexation, and theft. He faces deportation as an undesirable foreign national. But the case against him should be heard first before being deported from the country. He should be sent to prison and be made an example. His smug and unremorseful attitude while being arrested and processed should not be ignored.

These antics done for social media fame should not be tolerated. These people are exploiting the good nature of Asians and getting rich to boot. He’s lucky not to have come across someone who won’t put up with his nonsense. What if that was a politician’s daughter or wife he harassed? Should he be released and deported, he should never be allowed to return.

For sure, he will tarnish the Philippines. Authorities are also looking for the Filipino who took the videos. Vitaly can't do all his antics if no one is holding a camera. So, this Filipino enabled him. He may face charges if found. I don't understand how a Filipino would enable him, knowing the antics he is famous for. He probably wants a little of Vitaly’s social media fame. Let’s hope we see the last of Vitaly’s kind.
