Nothing is gained  from road rage

THAT DOES IT - Anne Sanchez - The Freeman

Two road rage incidents occurred this March. On March 20, one person was killed, and one was injured when a pick-up truck carrying the victims and the shooter's vehicle reportedly hit each other, causing a heated exchange. When the pickup truck was blocked, the driver of the other vehicle got out, punched the pickup truck driver, and then opened fire. According to the other passengers in the pickup truck, the shooter fired his gun until it was empty. One of the passengers was hit. His condition is said to be critical.

The shooter reportedly surrendered immediately and was later found to be a police officer. Why am I not surprised? We have heard of several incidents of this kind. The driver of the pick-up truck was not armed, so there is no reason for this police officer to shoot him just like that. I hope he gets fired from the service. I don't understand why someone like this can pass as a police officer.

The other incident occurred in Antipolo this Sunday afternoon. It was caught on video and immediately went viral on social media. In the video, two riders were beating up one person. When he realized he was in trouble, he pulled out a gun and repeatedly fired at the riders. One rider fell next to a black Fortuner owned by the shooter. The video also shows the shooter carrying a woman who also appeared to have been hit. The driver was immediately caught at a checkpoint. Four were taken to the hospital, including the woman who happened to be the shooter's partner. One of the people shot has since passed away, so he is now facing a murder case, two frustrated homicide cases, and violation of the Comelec gun ban.

The debate has begun on whether the driver had the right to use a gun because of self-defense and may have felt his life was in danger. But another video shows the driver of the Fortuner driving recklessly, probably causing the altercation. Let's let the court decide who is at fault in this incident. What is clear is a violation of the Comelec gun ban. I know even permits to carry are suspended at this time. Four people were hit by his shooting, one confirmed to have died. Nothing is gained in road rage incidents. This should be the takeaway from these. If you chance upon a hothead on the road, just let him pass, and you have a good chance of getting home safe.
