Teodoro breaks silence on corruption allegation
MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro yesterday vowed to answer the criminal and administrative complaints filed against him and other city officials over alleged irregularities in procurement transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Breaking his silence on the charges, Teodoro said he has yet to receive a copy of the complaint filed by businessman Rico Mariano.
“Once we receive the official copy of the complaint filed before the ombudsman, we will respond to the accusations made against us,” Teodoro said in a statement.
In a 53-page complaint, Mariano accused Teodoro and his wife, Marikina 1st District Rep. Marjorie Anne Teodoro of corruption and malversation of public funds.
The other respondents are city accountant Erlinda Gonzales, barangay officer Marie Joy San Juan as well as acting city treasurers Miguel Rebanal and Florencia Gamad.
Mariano alleged that his firm was used by local officials as a front supplier between 2020 and 2021 even if the contracts were awarded to other suppliers.
Teodoro said anyone can file a complaint, but maintained it is their duty to address allegations with transparency and in accordance with due process.
“We will cooperate with the probe of the ombudsman,” he said.
