Advocating for artistic expression

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

As February draws to a close, designating arts month, we are again reminded of the imperative to maintain supporting activities which capture our identity as a whole through art. The arts provide an effective way to reflect upon who we are as a society, expressing our history, our heritage, and our values. Keeping ourselves actively engaged with the arts is fundamental in maintaining our heritage and enhancing our sense of community.

Whether through community projects or other creative ventures, it is important to support efforts that further our common goals and celebrate our distinctiveness. By concentrating on our own cultural art forms, we can produce purposeful art that is meaningful for our people and speaks to our values. Such creative efforts not only advance our culture but also help to create a sense of belonging and pride among us. Let us pledge to foster creativity on terms that benefit our aspirations and honor what makes us unique.

I wish that artistic endeavors are not limited to school-based initiatives, and local government units make a conscious effort to produce rich, dynamic initiatives. It's important that these institutions see the worth of the arts in enriching our society and making people more creative. Through collaboration with schools and local artists, government units can produce programs that encourage participation and express our cultural heritage. Together, we can build an open environment in which artistic creativity blooms and reaches out to serve every member of our community. We can join as one and cause a stronger, more cohesive society that cares and encourages the arts.

Each month brings us a significant highlight in the form of several celebrations, and since we are dedicating February to arts month, let us see this dedication extend to the entire year. We must make a conscious effort to incorporate the arts into our day-to-day lives, bringing creativity into our daily lives instead of making it an event once a year. By celebrating artistic performance throughout the year, we deepen our understanding and appreciation of diverse talent in our community and enhance engagement. We should encourage an atmosphere where art continuously inspires us and enriches us, reinforcing our shared sense of identity and values. As art becomes part of our ongoing life, a richer, livelier community could be encouraged to emerge.

I highly respect the well-meaning organizations working on building and sustaining artistic projects that raise the consciousness of their communities. Through their combined efforts, these organizations are very important in promoting creativity and leading conversations regarding the arts. Their efforts not only enrich access to arts experiences but also create a better understanding of our collective cultural identity. By encouraging people to get involved in the arts, they make our community a livelier and more educated place. It is inspiring to see this kind of commitment, as it enriches our existence and enhances our bonds with each other.

Art is a fundamental expression of life and the human experience. It captures our emotions, tells our stories, and connects us across cultures and generations. Celebrating art enriches our lives, sparks creativity, and fosters appreciation for diverse perspectives. It's essential to recognize and honor the role of art in our communities, encouraging participation and dialogue. Let’s continue to advocate for artistic expression, ensuring it remains a vibrant part of our everyday existence.
