MANILA, Philippines — Child exploitation victims rescued since 2022 totaled 636, including a four-month-old baby in Taguig City sold on the dark web, according to the Philippine National Police.

“The PNP stands firm in its fight against all forms of child exploitation. These rescued victims represent lives saved and futures restored. Every rescue mission is a step closer to justice and a safer environment for our children,” PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said yesterday.

The infant’s mother and aunt were arrested for attempting to sell the child online, the PNP noted.

Of the victims rescued, 375 were girls and 121 were boys, all aged 17 and below. Some were adults.

Since 2022, the PNP has carried out 307 operations, including 145 this year, targeting online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Efforts led to 167 suspects arrested, 218 cases filed and 12 court convictions.

Marbil said the operations led by the PNP Women and Children Protection Center and Anti-Cybercrime Group were part of an intensified campaign against child exploitation, as directed by President Marcos.

Marbil highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in combating child exploitation and tracking suspects operating on the dark web.

“AI-powered tools are transforming the way we solve crimes and rescue victims. These technologies enable us to analyze vast amounts of data, identify suspects with precision and swiftly respond to emerging threats,” he said.
