The worst American presidents

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty Josephus Jimenez - The Freeman

There have been great US presidents since 1789, including Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman, and Barack Obama. Of course, those are my own choices. You can have your own too. But when it comes to the worst, Donald Trump is one sure candidate to land in the top 10.

We came across an online assessment supposedly by the US news staff and listed Zachary Taylor as one of the 10 worst Americans to become president. He assumed office as the 12th US president on November 24, 1784, succeeding James K. Polk, and died on July 9, 1850 staying in the White House for less than seven months. He was succeeded by Millard Filmore, Taylor's vice president. Listed as the ninth worst president is Herbert Hoover, a Republican, the 31st president who was in the White House from March 4, 1989 to March 4, 1933. He was a poor communicator and fueled trade wars and exacerbated the Great Depression.

Number 8 among the worst is supposedly Millard Filmore, the 13th president who was president for one term, from 1850 to 1853. He favored slavery and for that, the secession by the southern states was delayed. Listed as number 7 among the worst US presidents was John Tyler, the 10th president who was without a party, was president from 1841 to 1845. He was a staunch defender of slavery. Number 6 is Warren G. Harding, another Republican, who was the 29th president from 1921 to 1923.He spent most of his time playing golf and poker. His administration was remembered as having so many scandals and controversies. Harding was one of the eight American presidents who died in office.

Considered number 5 among the worst is William Henry Harrison who was president only for one month. He assumed office on March 4, 1841 and died due to pneumonia on April 4, 1841. He delivered the longest inaugural address in US history. He was the first US president to die in office, after only 30 days in the White House. Number 4 is Franklin Pierce, a Democrat, who was president from 1853 to 1857. His presidency added more states to support slavery and helped in pushing the country to civil war. Number 3 is the 17th president Andrew Johnson, a Democrat, the president from 1865 to 1869. He suffered in comparison to his immediate predecessor, the greatest of them all, Abraham Lincoln, the great emancipator of the African-American slaves.

Number 2 among those classified is one we all know, Donald Trump, the only US president who was impeached not only once but twice. He is a Republican. He is running again, and with 91 cases filed against him, he is still the leading bet of his party for this year's presidential elections. He is the only living president who is named among the 10 worst in American history. Trump is not the worst though. The number one among the worst is a guy named James Buchanan, a Democrat who was the 15th president from 1857 to 1861 Buchanan was succeeded by Lincoln, and Johnson was next to the greatest American president.

GEORGE WASHINGTON
