Wait and see

As more than 31 million voters made their decision to elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. as the next president of the Philippines, we are in a wait and see mode. This means that there is so much uncertainty right now as to how the country will be run in the next six years. We remember that during the campaign trail, there was no presentation of his platforms. What we are sure of though, is his promise of bringing unity to the whole country.

Even the businessmen said they are unsure how the next few years will unfold. They need to know a concrete plan so that they could also map out how they will be operating. Like a game of chess, you have to plan your moves well. Sacrifices have to be made in order to achieve success. But with nothing on the table right now, it seems like we are in a blinded state.

There are already names floated for the positions of Cabinet members. Most of them, are alumni and professors from the University of the Philippines. This is also the university where most officials have been tagged as part of the communist movement. With such baseless accusations, it creates a form of confusion to those who are not part of this university. Still, we wait and see how these chosen individuals will implement policies in their respective agencies.

The community to protect journalists also wrote a letter in advance to the president-elect. They wanted to include in his agenda the preservation of press freedom. It was stated in their correspondence that the government should take their hands off media institutions and their daily operations. However, it is still quite unclear how he will deal with the fourth estate. We only know that he is going to hire a lawyer turned vlogger to run his communications department. Again, we still wait and see.

But when the waiting is over and we can finally see, I hope we don't just watch from the sidelines. We can always raise our voice to question, to demand, and to scrutinize such appointments that are beyond our control. The power emanates from the people then and until now. These are some of the things that will never change. The majority voted for unity, which will later translate to a better country. Let us all do our share to get there.

There is also the issue of bringing our economy to life by bringing in more stable jobs. Until there is no roadmap that we can see, it is still a wait and see game. An option to continue the previous administration's programs is also doable, but we can also wait on his individual concrete plans for us. I'd like to think the majority made the right decision of bringing this family back into power. Maybe the opposition was wrong all this time. By now it doesn't matter which side you're on. It's now a collective move to wait and see.
