Parents facilitate learning too

READER'S VIEWS - The Freeman

“Salamat Mama,” I heard my Grade 7 son Math from a distance. We have just submitted his Week 2 outputs today.

Being a new student in a new school added to his more exciting roller coaster learning in the new normal. Fortunately, his school in Talisay City provides all they need to attain good performance. Books, weekly printed modules, online class three hours a week per subject, consultation time with their teachers, interaction with their classmates and independent learning time are all set for them.

Still, he asked “sakto ni Ma?” He wanted confirmation if he was correct on every activity/written task/performance stipulated in the module.

I felt his joy that he was able to make it in his second week of blended learning. I realized the importance of my role as his adult facilitator at home. Though busy making a living, this mandatory responsibility from parents and other adult facilitators at home is essential to our children’s plight. How else can we be of help for them as they go through the weekly tasks in order to acquire independent learning?

Children have to be guided closely until they will be able to embrace the new normal way of learning especially the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC).

God bless us all parents. Our learner children need us every step of their way.
