All lives matter

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit Avila - The Freeman

Everyone knows that protests turned into violent riots clearly orchestrated by left-wing and right-wing groups have turned America into a turmoil all because of the death of George Floyd. But the death of one man has ended with the deaths of many men, many of them policemen and, hopefully, with the burial of George Floyd, this would already mark and end

of this protest, which we all know isn’t really just about “black lives matter.” We Catholics believe in the concept that all lives matter because we believe in the truth that God is love and makes no exception on whom he loves.

Unfortunately, the Democrats cannot use this slogan simply because they allow abortion in America where millions of unborn children are slaughtered every year. While many states went on a protest in the name of Floyd, who was killed by a policeman, no one has come out in the open to care for the sudden killing of retired St. Louis police chief David Dorn who was shot and killed early Tuesday morning after responding to a burglary alarm at Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in North St. Louis. Police chief John Hayden confirmed the information during a press conference last Tuesday. He said 55 businesses, including the pawnshop, reported property damage overnight following protests in downtown St. Louis over the death of Floyd. “During a looting process, David Dorn was exercising law enforcement training that he learned here, so in his honor, we are wearing our mourning bands,” he said. David Dorn served nearly four decades on the St. Louis Metropolitan Police force before retiring in 2007. David Dorn was a person of color. How ironic!

The protesters now have a new slogan called “Defund the Police”. This new slogan has turned viral with people bearing placards “Defund NYPD” or “Defund LAPD”. The City Council of Minneapolis has accepted this challenge to fund the Minneapolis police. However, when people ask what happens if someone robs a house or commits a crime. Whom shall the victim call? No one can give a proper answer to this question, which is why a great number of people, especially 84% of black Americans, are not supporting this defund movement.

Polls showed that the protest groups are a small minority within the USA. Come election day in November, I’m sure that the silent majority will come out in the open to denounce this movement.

With the continued presence of COVID-19 plaguing the world, many of us faithful Christians believe that this is the wrath of God that the world is suffering today. Look at China. Because of the one-child policy of the Chinese Communist Party (which they now shifted into a two-child policy), the wrath of God is upon them. The same thing with the USA. Because they have made abortion legal. Look at what is happening in the US today. Both China and the USA are doing exactly like what King Herod did when our Lord Jesus Christ was born. So until the world repents and does the will of the Father, I think we shall continue to suffer until we all wake up and accept the reality that God is really in charge of our lives.

People in Cebu City are genuinely concerned of the risk of the city being reverted back to a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise before evaluation of quarantine status on June 14. But in truth, the rise in COVID-19 cases was the result of tests done more than a week ago. Let me point out that whoever makes the decision regarding the status of Cebu City should have expected a rise in our GCQ status because at least some people are now trying to get back to their jobs. Like it or not, we have to face the reality that we are still in community quarantine because no available vaccine has been found to fight COVID-19 so far.

Meanwhile, I heard that President Duterte revealed that 43 hospitals in the Philippines are under investigation for their alleged refusal to admit patients. The President disclosed this to Congress pursuant to Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, which requires him to submit a report every Monday. Well find out soon enough.
