Why Gov. Davide ought to resign

For our special presentation on our talk show “Straight from the Sky,” allow me to introduce to you the New Generation Political Osmeñas… the sons of my good friend, the late former Vice Mayor Renato Osmeña… Councilor Richie and his brother Renato or Jun Jun Osmeña. Just like their father, both brothers really didn’t want to appear on TV, but I somehow coaxed them into having an outdoor shoot rather than have an interview inside our studio.

So we arranged to have this interview at the fabulous Parilya in the South Road Properties (SRP) with both brothers riding their motorcycles. Jun Jun has a BMW GS 1200 while Councilor Richie has a KTM 1200 Adventure. For good measure and great viewing, I used the drone of Richie as our drone in MyTV was still under repair.

When I arrived from Osaka last Thursday evening, I was a bit disturbed that the traffic in Cebu hasn’t changed for the better. Worse of all, the major news was still about who was the author of that damned billboard at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) and blared “Never Again!”? A week before I left for Japan this was already a two-week old issue and it just gets me that our political leaders are still talking about such a small matter. Remember the phrase, “Great minds, discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss small matters!”

How can Cebu get to where we ought to be when our political leaders are stuck on such a small matter? In the first place, I personally believe that the tarpaulin banner was set up with the permission of Gov. Hilario “Jun Jun” Davide, III. After all, he was the one who questioned this so-called “Waste of the people’s money in the amount of P840.2 million for the ASEAN Summit. But in my book the CICC has done its role for Cebu and take a look at the new Iloilo Convention Center, which now puts Iloilo to reclaim its old status as Queen City of the South!

If we don’t fix the earthquake damaged CICC, then that is truly a waste of people’s money. But then what can we expect from Mr. Good himself. Yes people say that Gov. Jun Jun Davide is a good man and I will fully concur with those people.

But being good while doing nothing makes him a no-gooder! If he doesn’t ask the Provincial Board for money to fix the CICC, then it is time to fix Jun Jun’s wagon and get him off the governor’s seat for he doesn’t deserve to be called governor of Cebu because a governor must govern… and he ain’t doing that at all!

How can we expect Cebu to prosper or even solve our major problems like traffic or yes, professionalize our district hospitals when we have a governor who doesn’t even check these hospitals? Last Friday night I was listening over the radio and the topic was still about that little boy who died because the doctors misdiagnosed his condition, giving him a treatment for asthma when his parents brought him to the hospital for stomach pains. Yet what the governor offered was to give money as “abuloy” to the bereaved family. This is like shutting the barn doors after the horse has been stolen!

What Minglanilla District Hospital needs is not just more money but they must be taught about the love of our Lord Jesus Christ for the poor. Doctors or nurses by their Hippocratic oath must help the sick especially those who cannot afford because they are a government hospital and their salaries are paid by our tax money! There is so much to do for the people working in our government facilities…but Gov. Davide has not helped these people at all! If he had any delicadeza at all, he ought to resign!

Last Saturday was a great day for big bike enthusiasts when our friends Mr. Recaredo King and his son Regan King inaugurated the first Harley Davidson dealership in Cebu City. Harley Davidson is a name synonymous to big motorcycles and they have been around in Cebu for a long time now. But the old Harley’s were not easy motorcycles to ride. Worse of all, they shook so violently that often when you rode that bike, some parts would just fall off! How times have changed and how Harley too has changed!

The first Harley’s that I saw was used by the police way back in the 1960’s and the Cañales brothers, the first motorcycle mechanics I knew, fixed those motorcycles across the Redemptorists Church. For many years, motorcycling in Cebu was exclusive to Japanese made motorcycles. Now kudos to the King family for finally bringing in Harley Davidson to Cebu!
