Malabuyoc, Cebu and its famous sons
Malabuyoc is a town 128 kilometers south from Cebu City. It is coined from the words Mala which means bad and Buyoc a Visayan word describing branches of trees bent heavily down.
In 1964, these were the town officials of Malabuyoc: Roque Vilbar, Mayor, Ceferino dela Pena, Vice Mayor, Reynaldo Abellon, Municipal Secretary, Cesar Larrobis, Judge, David B. Pormento, Treasurer, Mariano Allosada, Chief of Police, Dr. Guillermo Lozada, Health Officer. The councilors: Victoriano Cuenco, Pedro Figueroa, Patricio Ybanez, Jesus Villarin, Daniel Ponce and Guillermo Amante.
Its town judge, Cesar Guerrero Larrobis who became a lawyer on August 22, 1946, his father Canuto Larrobis became the First Elected President (the title of Chief Executives when the Americans came to the Philippines in 1899) of Minglanilla, Cebu. Judge Cesar Larrobis also served Minglanilla as Mayor.
Judge Cesar Larrobis married thrice, his first wife was a Miss University of the Visayas surnamed Aviles, their son, a namesake of Judge Cesar also became a lawyer, Cesar Jr. on March 8, 1972.
The third wife of Judge Cesar Larrobis by the name of Irene Creus (daughter of Alejo Redido Creus and Lucila Diana), he met her while he was Judge of Malabuyoc. A son of Judge Cesar and Irene by the name of Dennis just like his father also became a lawyer on May 4, 2000. Lawyer Dennis Creus Larrobis was appointed Judge and now is the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Trial Courts of Alegria and Malabuyoc.
The Creus Clan has produced famous professionals one of them is Engr. Teodosio Pimentel Creus (son of Faustino Redido Creus and Monica Quiobe Pimentel), who was born on July 17, 1925. He graduated with Honors at the Cebu Institute of Technology with the Course Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Engr. Teodosio, the boy from the far town of Malabuyoc fondly called as Tuding became an Engineering Wizard, an Expert on Cement Plant. Tuding started as a Junior Mechanical Engineer of Cebu Portland Cement Company in 1951, then later as Shift Engineer. Engr. Creus then became Power Engineer of Atlas Consolidated Mining Development Corporation in Toledo City, Cebu. It is there that he met his wife, Celsa Torrevilas, then a staff nurse of the Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros. Tuding and Celsa married on November 18, 1956.
Creus also worked as Chief Engineer of Universal Cement Company in Danao City, Cebu. Engr. Creus then rose to become the Vice President for Operations of Apo Cement Company in 1968, then as General Manager in 1973. Engr. Creus for his expertise was hired as Consultant of Grand Cement Manufacturing Company in 1989.
Engr. Tuding was not only successful in his career, he raised a beautiful family, who served God and Country, his eldest, Christine a graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine became a Doctor of Medicine and opened a clinic in Alabama, United States of America. Another daughter by the name of Corazon became a Bank Manager. A son by the name of Steven became an International Commercial Pilot. The second son, Romulo who also became a Doctor of Medicine became a Priest (he now carries the name, Father John Therese). Dr. Christine born on October 15, 1957 the well known and well loved Pediatrician of Clanton, United States of America died on July 4, 2009.
A brother of Tuding by the name of Neresito brought pride to Cebu by becoming a Philippine Air Force General. Another brother, Camilo became Cebu City Engineer. The present mayor belongs to the Creus Clan, Narciso "Lito" Endrina Creus, a son of the latter, Narciso "Lito" Lim Creus, Jr. also serves Malabuyoc as its Vice Mayor. A daughter of Mayor Lito by the name of Daisy also sits as a member of the town council.
A daughter of Malabuyoc, Hyacinth T. Jadraque (another Jadraque, Felicisimo Carcueva Jadraque is a member of the Malabuyoc Municipal Council) who became a lawyer on May 10, 2006 was appointed Assistant City Prosecutor on September 2, 2013 and assigned in the Talisay City Prosecutors Office. Another son of Malabuyoc became a lawyer, Phelias S. Limbaga on May 16, 1953 while Jose N. Balingit Jr. became a lawyer on April 11, 1990.
