Woman penitent

CROSS. It is the practice of some people to carry a wooden cross on Good Friday in fulfillment of a vow to atone for their sins. They even allow some onlookers along the way to beat them in imitation of the passion of Christ.

WOMAN. Most of the penitents are men but there was one Good Friday where a woman of about 50 was seen carrying a cross made of bamboo along Leon Kilat Street. She was wearing a pair of basketball shorts and a crown of thorns. About five children tagged along with her and beating her with bamboo sticks. She attracted some tourists.
