It says here that only three of 10 government officials outside Metro Manila read newspapers everyday. That is, newspapers they buy from newsboys or the newsstands.

It also says here that most government officials who read newspapers daily, either rent  newspapers from sidewalk news dealers or borrow the papers they read from neighbors.

A broadcast journalist I know says most government officials get their daily news from radio broadcasts. Now I know why these officials look for back issues of the daily papers for details.

In keeping with the observance of 2015 as the year of the poor, the CBCP has come up with a reminder to priests to observe simple lifestyle including not owning high-end cars and luxurious  recreation.

A priest's room must not be like a bachelor's pad where cosmetics and other things used for body enhancement are found.

The CBCP also advices priests to give alms to the poor, saying "do not be reluctant to pamper the beggars because they have no one to help them." Now, now, doesn't this advice to priests run counter to the law that penalizes begging?

Congratulations to Liloan town mayor Vincent Franco Frasco for having been named one of this year's TOYM awardees (for public administration). It's not often that we have officials garnering national awards.

The news says VECO has announced two upcoming possible rate hikes. Rate hikes are OK as long as they're not coupled with brownouts. It's the brownouts that get everyone's goat.

OFW remittances last Nov. went up 1.8 percent to 2.345 billion. Thanks to the continued demand abroad for skilled Pinoys. But did you realize the amount of tears this remittance inflow has caused to some OFW families?
