It is the street formerly known as the "B. Aranas Extension" in San Nicolas District. It starts from Carlock Street towards Jose Rizal Avenue, now known as the Natalio Bacalso Avenue.

B. Aranas Street, the main street still remains what was renamed was only the extension. B. Aranas is named after "Bonifacio "Asyong" Salcedo Aranas born on June 5, 1875 in Mambajao, Camiguin. He went to Cebu to study. He enrolled at the Seminario de San Carlos.

B. Aranas was appointed by Gen. Leon Kilat (Pantaleon Villegas) as General when he showed great military leadership during the Battle of Tres de Abril (April 3, 1898). When Leon Kilat died, he became one of the trusted lieutenants of Gen. Arcadio Molero Maxilom.

He went home to Camiguin envisioned with leading his province mates to rise against Spain. He was however betrayed by a friend. He was arrested and brought back to Cebu to be imprisoned at the Fort San Pedro. He challenged the Spanish Military Governor of Cebu to a duel. Impressed with his uncommon courage, he was executed wearing his military uniform.

Paulino R. Sanchez was a Sanikolasnon by birth, he had dedicated the best years of his life in the service of the government. Paulino served as councilor of the then municipality of Cebu from 1921 to 1928.

Sanchez was also appointed Provincial Sheriff of Cebu after the war retiring in 1964. The Provincial Sheriff was a prestigious position, at times the governor simultaneous assumes the position. Sanchez was a member of the Partido Democrata of Cebu. He was one of the attendees in a grand meeting held in Mabolo in preparation for the 1921 elections. It was a meeting attended by the famous men of Mabolo. Among others, they were Vitaliano Colina, Tiburcio Alega, Jose Abelgas, and Estanislao Macasero.

Paulino Sanchez was a staff of Don Vicente Rama's Bag-ong Kusog. In 1928, the staff of the Bag-ong Kusog, who were considered to be brilliant, as it was then considered that men who write in newspapers were learned men, ran for election. They were Ramon Abellanosa, Atty. Gervasio Lavilles, Avelino Morales, Epifanio Alfafara, Panfilo Lastimosa, and Vicente H. Garces (who became mayor of Talisay).

Paulino R. Sanchez was made a co-defendant being the Provincial Sheriff in a civil suit involving lands in Barrio Cogon (now Cogon-Ramos). The case was decided by the Supreme Court on July 31, 1957.

The Cebu City Council on July 24, 1975 enacted City Ordinance No. 917 renaming B. Aranas Extension to Paulino R. Sanchez Street. The ordinance sponsored by Councilor Arturo L. Abellana said that Sanchez "was an example of a good public servant, acting for the best interests of the people he represented in the then Municipality of Cebu."

The council then was composed of Florencio S. Urot, presiding officer, Bienvenido B. Tudtud, Jose V. Cuenco, Pablo U. Abella, George M. Baladjay, Arturo L. Abellana, Jesus S. Gabuya, Mario R. Veloso, and Raymundo A. Crsytal.

The Secretary to the Mayor was Epimaco A. Roca while the Secretary to the Council was Atty. Pompio A. Paradiang and the City Mayor was Engr. Eulogio Enriquez Borres who approved the street renaming ordinance on October 28, 1975. [email protected]
