Acacia in the Bible
Headline: "2 Edsa "hulidap' cops seek transfer to Crame jail." That's the beauty of being "hulidap" cops in this country. You can ask the court to be locked up in any jail you want.

It says here that "8 Manila cops wanted for robbery-extortion." By gad, they're still at it?

My favorite top-class actress Lea Salonga has been reported as getting mad when someone she didn't know called her "Ate." Lea must've lost touch with Philippine reality having lived most of her life abroad.

In this country, anyone is "Ate" or "Kuya." An address by youngsters to anyone their senior. "It's supposed to be an address of respect. Maybe, even of endearment.

Verse 1, it says: "You shall make an altar to burn incense on: you shall make it of acacia wood." Acacia is again mentioned in Exodus 30:5 where it says: "You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold."

While we're still celebrating Cebu Press Freedom Week, I'd like to recall an experience I had while the EDSA People Power revolt was nearing victory. A member of the civil society here, sounding triumphant, phoned me and warned me; "Stop quoting Doroy Valencia's column or else we will burn your newspaper like we did to the other pro-Marcos papers."

When I asked who she was, she banged the phone. I went on to put the Freeman to bed, the issue still carrying some humorous items I picked up from Doroy Valencia's column. I said to myself: "Wa pa gani mahingpit ang kadaugan nanghasi na."
