The UNA Party was never a real opposition!

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

For our special presentation on our talk show on Straight from the Sky tonight, we bring you some of the people behind the National Transformation Council. Last Sept.27th, in Lipa, Batangas, the NTC finally came out in public and came up with the Lipa Declaration declaring amongst others that the Aquino Regime has lost its moral ascendancy to run the affairs of the government and it sought for the resignation, not only of Pres. Benigno Aquino  III, but also for all elected government officials because this group believes that the 2013 electronic elections was marred by massive electronic fraud and, therefore, all those who purportedly won in that elections are considered “de facto” officials.

We have already written the story about the electronic “Dagdag Bawas” so many times, but the ordinary man on the street who voted in that elections doesn’t even know if his vote was counted or not. He was merely contended in accepting money from those politicians who bought his vote. This was proven by Prof. Alex Muga, Information Technology  Professor at the Ateneo University in Manila. Yet despite this massive cheating by the Commission on Elections  there has been no investigation on this case. Why?

So tonight, we have with us, former Defense Secretary and former Security Adviser Sec. Norberto Gonzales and former Sen. Francisco “Kit” Tatad who is a columnist of The Manila Times to tell us what’s happening in our country today and why the National Transformation Council was formed. You can see this interesting interview on SkyCable’s channel 61 at 8:00PM with replays on Wednesday and Saturday the same time. We also have replays on MyTV’s channel 30 on Monday at 9:00PM and on Wednesday and Friday at 7:00AM and 9”00PM respectively.

I finally met Mayor Michael Rama last Friday evening during the blessing and inauguration of Volkswagen in Cebu and his reply to me on the article we wrote about those new buildings that didn’t have any parking space was “We shall be destroying new buildings’.” I hope Mayor Mike meant what he said because in my book, when building owners get a permit to change their houses into buildings and do not care to meet any parking requirements, these establishments should be shut down and no business permit should be approved until they fix the problem or be destroyed!

Still on Mayor Mike Rama, I have no doubt that this early our politicians are trying to position themselves for the 2016 Presidential elections. So when I read in The Freeman last Friday that Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama had joined the United Nationalist Alliance Party as a charter member during its organizational meeting last Wednesday, all I could say is, this is understandable as Mayor Mike Rama was snubbed by the ruling Liberal Party during the last mayoralty elections in 2013. So he ran under Team Rama and won his second term against the supposedly invincible former mayor Tomas Osmeña. Mayor Mike earned the title “Giant Killer!”

Unfortunately for Mayor Mike, he wasn’t listening or reading the events unfolding in the case against Vice President Jejomar Binay, the titular head of UNA, which, by the way, has openly declared that he never once attacked Pres. Benigno Aquino III because of his closeness to the Aquino family. The Aquino family, led by former Senator Butz Aquino openly declaring its support to Vice Pres. Binay last Aug.21st meant that whether he likes it or not, Mayor Mike Rama will still be allied with the Aquino family by his being with UNA. Strange bedfellows?

Yes, one of the biggest problems with UNA is that, it never presented itself as a real opposition simply because of Vice President Binay’s closeness to the Aquinos. This is why our democracy has become nothing but a farce! As some pundits would say, “What we have is a “democracy!” So the question is, was it to Mayor Mike Rama’s advantage to be with UNA?

In my book, Mayor Mike Rama is better off with his Team Rama. Elections as we all know is local and national parties need local parties more than the local parties need those national parties. We know that most politicians have allied with UNA because Vice Pres. Jejomar Binay has been dubbed as the man to beat. But that is only a perception today as there are still no other personalities running for President. And yes, I submit that VP Binay is a much stronger candidate than DILG Sec. Manuel “Mar Roxas.

But we’ve been following the expose of VP Binay’s corruption where his own friends (whom he betrayed by installing his own son Jun Jun Binay as mayor of Makati) have openly testified that they got kickbacks from the Makati Parking building and even declared that all infrastructure projects in Makati were rigged by them on the orders of then Mayor Binay. So now the ball is in Mayor Mike Rama’s court…” Was it wise to join UNA?” Abangan!
