They say prosperity under martial law was an illusion. (PhilSTAR, September 22/14). Sure, it was. But not to a lot of people who knew which side of the bread to butter.

The world population may hit 11 billion by year 2100. Some big problems coming up for the people we'll leave behind. Pity our children's children.

International Day of Peace was celebrated recently — amid bombings, killings, beheadings, abuses by IS extremists. No one seems to be giving peace a chance anymore.

No, no one. They're even slaughtering the doves, the birds symbolizing peace and cooking them a-la lechon manok.

No one has yet thought of proclaiming a Day of Peace in Politics. This we also need at this time of damaging political intrigues and political demolition jobs.

It says here that Cordillera also wants autonomy. So, too, with the other regions following the Bangsamoro autonomy. Everyone wants to be autonomous. Everyone, it seems, wants to get away from Imperial Manila. So, Iyo Temiong says: "Let's try Federalism."

Thanks to Bobit A for the Australian newspapers – The Sydney Telegraph, The Australian and the Saturday Paper of Sydney. Bobit always brings home from his travels abroad newspapers as sinugatan for me.

Another friend who never forgets to bring home for me newspapers from places abroad that he visits is Gabriel "Gambie" Hilario. Most of the papers he brings home are European dailies. It was from Gambie whom I got to see how "L'Observatore Romano" looks like.

The Daily Telegraph from Sydney has 80 pages, 11 pages devoted to sports, and 10 pages exclusively about horse racing. Not a line about basketball, Race horses are played more than LeBron James.

OVERHEARD. Three high society matrons having ice cream snacks in a hotel lobby were overheard talking about the ukay-ukay business of the kumadre of one of  them. "Adto ta ron didto naay mga bag-ong branded bags," said one. "Ssshh...Ayaw'g saba," whispered one of  the matrons.
