HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

These news stories came out Sept. 11 on the same page of the PhilSTAR; "Hulidap cop is worth P6.5-M"; "3 Manila policemen rob seaman, wife"; "Cop in EDSA 'hulidap' surenders,"; "Witness says cop killed Pastor," and the umbrella head of the same paper said "More reports of extort-cop emerges."

Reading the above quoted news, the grandson of a fellow newsman said to his grandpa: "Lolo, magpadayon pa ko sa akong planong magpolis?"

Someone texted me: "Noticed that Cebu Pacific ads have turned from red to yellow? I did not reply but, yes, I have noticed. So what? Cebu Pacific turning yellow because Sir Lucio Tan is back to owning PAL?

Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather says he's retiring in 2015. He has never gotten the guts to mix it up with Manny Pacquiao. So, while the slate is still clean, he's hanging up the gloves. He'll be back when Manny retires.

It says here that 13 were killed when a Ford Fiera fell into a deep ravine in Benguet because its hand brake failed. This time it's not the foot brake that is blamed. Someday when they run out of excuses, the ravine and the cliff will be faulted.

Port congestion has been of late a serious problem in Manila. A shipping beat reporter of my acquaintance suggests Phl port officials to study how Singapore, a small island, manages to keep its port in order. Let it be known that Singapore is the world's No. 2 busiest port in total tonnage. "You haven't heard of Singapore having port congestion problem," he said.

"Even the port of Hong Kong, also one of the busiest ports in the world in terms of ships coming and leaving, doesn't have congestion problem," he said, adding: "Maybe your (Phl) port authorities can also learn from Hong Kong,"

The shipping beat reporter mentioned here is Paul Lindstorm, my former co-reporter for Container News magazine of the US. He is now with a shipping news group in Liverpool.
