Fighting battles on our bended knees

A K of C friend of mine gave me this advice if I got problems too hard to solve: "Fight the battle on your knees." I got what he meant and I've been fighting my battles kneeling.

QC Mayor Bistek Bautista has said sorry to "Ma'am Etta" (the Human Rights chief) for slapping a Chinese drug suspect. Last night, I heard Brod Mike Velarde of El Shaddai say that the Holy Bible is against the act of slapping. "Suntokin mo na lang sa tiyan," he said.

I heard it on tv that nine out of 10 children in Manila have tooth decay and need dental attention. Most parents know this but they say: "Food first before toothpaste."

A Japanese health official wants to donate some 1,000 toilet bowls to toilet-less families in some slum areas in the Visayas, including Cebu, but was told that installing those bowls complete with plumbing would be more than double the cost of the donated bowls.

An economics professor from UP Diliman says he can only shake his head when he hears someone belittle the economic growth of the country which even the World Bank, the Asian bank, and the IMF have recognized.

"I always hear critics say: 'OK there's economic growth. But the people are still suffering...the so-called growth has not trickled down to the masses." Tell you what, Mr. Jabat. We could be in a worse situation had there been no economic growth."

OVERHEARD: Sales representatives having lunch in one of the city's shopping malls were talking about PNoy. Said one: "Wa na lagi istorya-istorya bahin a lovelife in Noynoy." Said another one: "Bitaw. Busy na si PNoy pangita'g rason nga makapalingkawas niya sa isyu sa DAP." Another one: "Kanang lovelife-lovelife makada na'g demalas."
