HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

Did you know that what we call here as manicurista is called nail technician in Dubai and other Arab countries?

A local government official wants to push with more vigor the Sariling Sikap (self-help) program of the Marcos regime. Many government people took that self-help program literally. They helped themselves to the gravy.

I recently wrote about an actress who, when asked what she does when she wakes up in the morning, answered: "Take a bath, brush my teeth and do vocalization." She forget to thank the Lord she is still able to wake up...and, yes, brush her teeth.

My friend and media colleague Loy Jurado said there was another actress who said the first thing she does upon waking up is to check the messages in her cellphone. The prayer comes later.

PNoy took potshots at previous administrations for neglecting the Philippine Air Force. On PAF's 67th anniversary, PNoy said what used to be one of the strongest air forces in Asia "can no longer take off because of corruption." No wonder this joke continues making the rounds: The PAF is all air, no force.

In Cebu and in other places of the country motorcycle riders including the backriders are required to wear crash helmet (or else!) The fine (multa) is big for violators. But in Ifugao motorcycle riders are required NOT to wear crash - helmet or else!

This no-helmet-policy is intended to stop the rising incidence of the riding-in-tandem crimes that are pulled by motorcycle riders wearing helmet. Policemen who allow people to ride on motorcycles wearing crash helmets are meted stiff sanctions.

Singapore never runs out of ideas on how to create activities designed to draw tourists to further boost its tourism industry. Like these annual Gay Rights rallies.

Gay rights rallies in Singapore are not like the Phl protest rallies where some rallyists are hurt after clashing with the police. The gay rallies participated in by the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community are fun watching and even participating in. This year the Gay Rally attracted 26,000 people. Gays and straights as well as tourists took part.

OVERHEARD. Many names are being mentioned as probable candidates for President in the 2016 election. A real estate agent said: "Ang akong gustong ma-Presidente wa diha sa listahan. Dili kuno puwede kay bayot." Comment by a salesman of beauty product: "Bitaw. Ngano man diay og bayot. Ang nangagi tang president pulos he-man tan-awa hain ta ron."  Another comment: "Suwayan gud nato ang bayot basin naa diha atong suwerte."
