Valentine's gift for our seniors

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

Noy Temyong my sidewalk philosopher friend saw this notice on the wall of a building near his house: "Ginadili ang pagpangihi dinhi. Kun iro ka OK lang."

Noy Temyong also saw this notice in a bus on the South Cebu route: "Do not urinate while the bus is running. Only when stop."

A peanut vendor doing business on Sanciangco St. says many priests passing by this street are mistaken as "ordinary civilian" because they are not wearing their "uniform."

Business news. Experts expect 2014 to be another banner year for the liquor industry despite the higher sin taxes. This means alcohol will continue to help fuel Phl's economic growth. So let's drink to that.

A Valentine's card I saw had this romantic message on the cover: "Love is the tie that binds." But I heard someone say that sometimes it is also the "tie that blinds."

A middle-aged couple unceremoniously left a piano and violin concert in an uptown hotel when the wife got into a coughing fit at the height of the concert. "It was embarrassing," said the husband. "Mga tawo wa na maminaw sa konsiyerto, tua na sa akong asawa siging ubo."

In a Concert one has to be careful with one's voice. "Bisan igham ta makabalda sa concert," said a friend. Reminds me of the night I covered another piano concert. There was silence in the concert hall, except for the music. Then suddenly my Pockebell Pager sounded. All eyes were on me. I had to leave in a huff. I did not know how to stop the Pager. It was the first time I took hold of one.

Back then, there was no cellular phone. The Pager was the king of all high-tech communication tools. Sikat ang reporter with a Pager.

My good friend Daido Angel was to go back to Manila (where his work is) Feb. 4 after a month long vacation that covered all the Fiesta Señor activities in Cebu. I wish him the best. He's one of the few friends I have left, most have already gone the place of no return.

OVERHEARD. Senior citizens will receive P3,000 cash assistance from the Cebu City government next week as Valentine's Day gift, says the news item. Says one senior citizen: "Maytag di na hiniktan. Maytag di ta panington sa pagkuha niana."
