Sto. Niño de Cebu

THE EAR - The Freeman

STO. NIÑO DE CEBU.  An Augustinian priest in Manila told speakers and writers that when speaking and writing about Cebu's Sto. Niño it must always be identified as Sto. Niño de Cebu. He said there are many other Sto. Niño's like Sto. Niño de Praga, Sto. Niño de San Miguel, Sto. Niño de Suwerte, etc. The Sto. Niño de Cebu, he said, is recognized as the Sto. Niño officially venerated by Filipinos.

IN ILOILO. Sto. Niño de Cebu is the patron of Iloilo City's St. Joseph Parish, the priest said. "Out there, when they speak about Sto. Niño there is always 'de Cebu' to identify the Sto. Niño they have adopted as their patron," he said. He made it clear that it was the Augustinians from Cebu who brought the first Sto. Niño de Cebu icon to Iloilo City which later became the center of veneration by the now famous Dinagyang organizers.
