Jose G. Logarta St., Talisay City, Cebu
It is the road in Barangay Linao, starting from the National Highway (officially named as N. Bacalso St.) beside VACPHIL going to Seaview Heights of Talisay City.
The Talisay City Council on Sept. 1, 2009 enacted Resolution No. 2009-150 naming the street in honor of Jose G. Logarta, who in his lifetime was a resident of Barangay Lawaan I, Talisay City. He was born on Aug. 26, 1928. He was an alumnus of the University of Southern Philippines (presently called University of Southern Philippines Foundation), he took up Bachelor of Arts in English and later Bachelor of Laws. He was a newspaperman and started with the Pioneer Press as proofreader then as staff member. He likewise worked with the “Morning Times†and the Cebu Daily News (not the present one). He was a news writer of the DYRC-DYBU from 1957 to 1960, then with the DYCB and DYCU in 1961 to 1967. Aside from the said radio stations, he later worked with DYSS, DYBB and Channel 7. He was editor of the Republic News.
He was a recipient of awards from “Citizens National Electoral Assembly†in 1971, “Mendy Singh Journalism Award for Editorial Writing†and the Community Newspaper Award for the Republic News in 1978. Logarta was featured in the publication “Cebu Journalism and Journalists Volume Twoâ€.
The Barangay Council of Linao, Talisay City, Cebu on July 18, 2009 sponsored by Councilors Hermenegildo P. Sedentario and Epigenia L. Sellona passed a resolution naming the street in honor of Jose G. Logarta. This was later adopted by the Talisay City Council sponsored by Councilor Shirley Cabanero-Belleza, Chairman of Committee on Tourism, Heritage and International Relations.
Logarta died in 1987 after he left for the United States and briefly worked as editor of the San Diego section of the Philippine American News. He also taught journalism in Bell Junior High San Diego.
