Animals have feelings too

Human beings find pleasure in a lot of things. Not only those that heed to the call of nature but also sweet desires such as dessert, music and the like. I for one find pleasure in cupcakes and its colorful icing on top.

However, there is this odd group of people who find pleasure in watching torture videos. Audio visual materials that involve the torturing of animals by women are called crush videos. Last week, a video of three women who stomped, kicked and stepped on a week-old puppy went viral. It made social media enthusiasts angry at the animal abuse seen. Word has it that measures were taken to track the source of the video.

But according to reports, crush videos have been in the pornographic industry for quite some time already. It is said that a consumer of this type of medium could request for women to wear bikini or leather boots. The fees are high, money comes in easily. Not only does this act torture animals, it also objectifies women.

How could a world like this tolerate such an industry?

I did not have the heart to finish the video on the Internet but reports were dominant on television. I could not stomach the fact that human beings like them had the heart to kill a young animal, an animal with a life.

Even if animals do not have rational thinking, they also have feelings - like all living creatures do. The moans of the puppy as it was tortured to death were very heart breaking to an animal lover like me. My sympathy rose as I found out that other animals are victims of this kind of cruelty too such as the snake, rabbit and the like. If the incident was done to my cat, I do not know what I could do to those heartless ladies.

Not only is animal cruelty present in crush videos. Animals are killed for their skins, bones and tusks to be used in clothes and other ornaments.

Now that the industry has been uncovered my only wish is for people to stop patronizing this cruelty. Animals have a place in this world and they are not to be subject to cruelty on pornographic sites. They belong to an ecological system which we must maintain. As the highest form of beings, we must be the one who should regulate the balance of the system because there is only one world to live in.

When all else fails, we have nobody to blame but ourselves and our selfishness. Animals are innocent and do not deserve such treatment.

I do hope the government would strengthen the measures against animal cruelty. A law should not just be amended but it should be strictly enforced. People who are into the crush video industry must be convicted of a heavier sentence.

I'm also glad that various animal groups are actively fighting for this cause too, we all should. Somewhere in our lives we all have encountered a pet which became a big part of our lives.

A famous adage went that a dog is a man's best friend because they are loyal and could love unconditionally. There are accounts of pets saving their master's life because they value their relationship so much. How could other people exchange this sweet relationship for a couple of bucks?

If poverty is an issue, I believe there is always a way out. Cruelty is not the answer to a better life. Perhaps hard work would.
