From PDAF to DAP

Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

While everyone is making fun of and insulting the pig, the feedmill industry is helping the pig industry grow.

The title of Phil STAR columnist Federico Pascual's column last Sept. 29 said: "The corrupt proving their fellow corrupt." Reminds me of an article I once read that said: "Only a thief knows a fellow thief."

The fuss has shifted from PDAF to DAP. Al Pedroche's Mang Gustin says they are the same...they sound the same HOL-DAP.

I heard some political watchers say that Sen. Grace Poe will make a good president. Good? There has never been a good president in this country. Ask the militant protesters and the effigy makers.

"If your feel like crying, cry!" said a doctor I once heard in a seminar. "It's good for the health," he said. That's exactly what UST basketball coach Pido Jarencio did after his team beat the National U Bulldogs in the UAAP semifinals. No wonder Pido looks healthiest among the UAAP coaches.

I once heard a story about prisoners in Munti keeping rats and training them to run errands for inmates like asking for cigarettes from fellow prisoners in adjoining cells. I thought it was a story good for Ripley. Until I got this story about rats working as cops in the Netherlands.

* * *

This story here about the Dutch Police training rats to help them in police detective work is another Ripley material. This story says the Dutch Police have done away with dog sniffers because the rats are more economical to acquire, keep and train.

* * *

A rat with potentials for police work can cost only a few euros or dollars to obtain, unlike the dog sniffers that cost thousands of euros or dollars, according to the chief of the Dutch Police Innovation Center.

I informed a fellow mediaman about this innovation in the Dutch Police force and his reaction was a big laugh. "Don't you know," he said, "that there have been rats in our police forces for years?"

OVERHEARD. Two businessmen were heard talking about a news report that senators got P1.1 billion on top of the pork fund they had received. Said one of them: "Grabeng dakuang kuwarta." Said the other: "Unya mahibong ka pa sa gibalitang nagtukod si Jinggoy og mansion nagkantidad og P500 milyones?"
