EDITORIAL - Great amount of pressure

The Freeman

We really understand the great amount of pressure that the authorities have felt in their investigation into the killing of Jessie Tabanao, the former spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas. The public knows that the case is a high-profile one that merits careful and thorough probe.

As far as the investigation goes, there's been no clear result as to the motive behind his killing. Earlier, police admitted facing a bank wall in their investigation since no witness could identify the gunman.

On Friday, investigators have divulged that they have in their possession Tabanao's cellular phone, which they claimed bears messages that could help them solve the case, pointing out that his murder could be related to his job.

Now that they have a lead, we hope that the police are in the right track to unmask those behind the killing. All the public would want to see is an intensified investigation for the immediate solution of the case.

It's now a week into Tabanao's death. And investigators are still busy connecting the pieces to come up with solid clues in their effort to pin down those responsible and know the reason for his killing.

With his loved ones longing for justice, the authorities should leave no stone unturned in their investigation. They should see to it that all angles are explored to bring swift justice to the victim's family.

There's really a need for the police to heighten the effort for the immediate capture of Tabanao's perpetrators. In their investigation, all they need is to start from the nearest angle, which is his being an anti-drug crusader.

There may be other angles that need to be explored. However, the public thinks that it is the one related to his PDEA employment that is worth giving priority.

Tabanao's death is indeed a great loss to the agency he was serving. And authorities should act speedily to bring his murderers to justice.
