Why God created mothers

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - JuanitoJabat - The Freeman

It's Mother's Day on Sunday. Guess what's the most quoted pickup line about mothers? This: "God cannot be everywhere all the time so He created Mothers."

A child who was about to be born told God he was afraid to come out because of the bad people on earth. "Is there an angel to protect me?" he asked God. And God assured him: "Yes, an angel will protect you. Her name is MOM."

Bob Phillips my favorite humor writer said: "One mother can take  care of ten children but ten children can't take care of one mother."

If you asked a taxi driver to vote for your candidate or candidates and then give him a tip substantial enough to buy him dinner, couldn't that be called vote-buying?

The fire that broke out in the stretch limo that killed some Pinays in the US should be a wakeup call for transport operators in Cebu, and for that matter, in other parts of the Phl. This according to Safety Engr. Nick Terado. He said: "Precautionary measures are a must for passenger vehicles traveling long distances."

Terado, who claims to be formerly with the Land Transportation Safety office in Hong Kong under the British rule, says fire extinguishers must always be part of a passenger transport. "Daghang mga bus nga akong nasakyan dinhi sa ato ug didto sa Mindanao nga way fire extinguishers," Terado, who hails from Mindanao, says.

Yao Ming, the hardcourt giant from China, is no ambassador of goodwill, says PhilSTAR sportswriter Joey Villar (PhilSTAR, May 8/13). Not only does he look arrogant, he is arrogant.

* * *

Yao rarely poses for photos with fans. He rarely signs autographs. Many Pinoy athletes have known his arrogance long ago.

* * *

In one of the Summer Olympics he took part in, Yao Ming, because of his fame, attracted many Pinoy athletes who flocked around him to shake his hand and pose for souvenir photos. Yao Ming ignored them. "It was as if he didn't see the hands offered to him for a handshake," said one Visayan athlete.

* * *

After the defeat of his Shanghai Sharks in the hands of Gilas Pilipinas, Yao Ming left the SM Arena ahead of his players who still had one friendship game to play with the PBA stars. Maybe out of anger or shame because he had earlier challenged the Phl squad to best China before the Pinoys could be called "the best" in the region. The Sharks bowed to Gilas Pilipinas, 72-80.

OVERHEARD. A member of a women's club says she is not voting for an uncle who is running for a local post. Asked why, she replied: "Pinasagdan niini ang iyang pamilya tungod sa tulo niya ka scholars nga iyang ka-iring-iring magabii." May lang kun makadaug ko kay di ko na siya gukdon," the uncle said.
