Flyover barriers

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

PNoy has vetoed the bill allowing short people to become policemen or firemen. Lack of height has always been some people's shortcoming.

I used to believe that PNoy was only against short people becoming President.

“Peanut farmers are shifting to other crops, because of meager earnings,” says this news item. In other words they're earning peanuts?

During election campaigns, we hear candidates praise themselves to high heavens. “It's part of the game,” says one candidate, my friend. “This is a free country,” says another. But I once heard one highly respected author say: “Self-praise stinks in the nostrils.”

***

Speaking of self-praise, there was once a book against self-praise whose author's name on the cover was bigger than the book's title.

Mayor Mike Rama is asking the Public Works Department to remove the concrete barriers placed on the flyovers in the city. These were intended to prevent accidents but Hizzoner says they invite mishaps instead.

***

I have received one question re these concrete barriers which I cannot answer: “Were those barriers placed there without prior knowledge of the mayor?”

***

These concrete barriers, which Hizzoner got hot and bothered about, was the subject of an article written for Banat News by Javier Y. Tapulado long before Mike R's anger hit the papers. Javier called it “rampa sa disgrasya.” Among other things, Javier wrote: “Dili kaayohan ang nahatag ini sa katawhan, kundili kadautan.”

OVERHEARD. Two men were heard commenting about the destruction of the Tubbataha Reef by the US warship. Said one: “Gusto gyud natong pabayron ang Kano sa kadaut nga nahimo sa ilang barko de gira.” Answered another one: “Bitaw oy. Pananglitan moingon ang Kano nga i-deduct lang sa minilyong hinabang namo ninyo ang kadaut nga nahimo sa among barko, unsa man?"
