Lenten reflections

READER'S VIEWS - Henry L. Yu, M.D. - The Freeman

Day in and day out, we seem to be in a hurry all the time. We lead a fast-paced life as if it were a desperate race to catch up. We somehow forget the fact that in this lifetime, we need to slow down and give time for ourselves to reflect on the real meaning and purpose of life and living, to give ourselves some moments of silence to pause and ponder on who we really are.

Human beings that we are, we all need moments like these. In observance of the Lenten Season, let us take a break from our busy schedules and pause for a while for these Lenten reflections:

- What were the obstacles and trials that came into my life? How did I deal with them?

- What promises to God, people and myself did I break?

- What were the occasions that I got angry or lost my patience?

- What were the things that affected me most and really made me sad?

- What were the negative things that I have done to myself and to others?

- What were the mistakes I committed? What lessons did I learn from these mistakes?

- How many Sunday masses did I miss? For what reasons?

- How many times did I help the needy? Who were they?

- Which of my plans did not materialize? Why?

- Who were the people that I have hurt through my words and actions?

- Who were the people that I had misunderstanding with?

- Who were the people I hated or disliked most?

- Who were the people who died the past year? How did their deaths affect my life?

- If I should die tomorrow, am I ready to face the Lord?
