A good candidate cannot win?

My media colleague Loy Jurado greeted me “Kung hei fat choi” during the Chinese New Year celebration. He translated the popular Chinese greeting thus: “May you have a fat wallet throughout the year of the snake.”

A lady feng shui advocate says the water snake is not a dangerous snake. No, it’s not. I heard someone say that the dangerous snake is the one below the belt.

Many columnists I know have ceased writing their columns. They have been silenced by the Comelec because they are running in the May 13 election.

I’m glad my friends and fellow mediamen Manny de los Santos Rabacal, John Rey Saavedra and Fritz Quiñanola are not running in the coming election. I don’t want their talk show “Clear Out Tonight” (CCTN Ch. 47) to be cleared out tonight by the Comelec.

One of the TV program hosts I love to watch is Bobby Inoferio who handles the sports program “Scoop” on CCTN Ch. 47. He is a rare breed of TV host. He starts his show by asking his guests to join him in a brief prayer. Then at the end of the show he says “I love you” to the televiewers. Keep it up Bobby Knight. I like your style.

I told a friend that I’m voting for Bro. Eddie Villanueva who is running for senator in May. He shook his head saying: “Brother Eddie cannot win.” Why? I asked my friend. His answer: He is a good man.”

My friend said electoral candidates especially the godly ones, have little or no chance to win in our kind of electoral exercise. I asked him why and his reply was: “Siyaro sad, Bai, mangutana pa ka?”

I watched on TV Feb. 9 the volleyball game between Ateneo and La Salle at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. It was the first ever collegiate volleyball game that drew close to 20,000 paying fans. The huge venue was filled to the proverbial rafters. Sports observers in Manila said even the world volleyball championship played in Manila some years ago did not draw fans that many.

OVERHEARD. Two mothers were heard talking about the sex video scandal involving a college coed. MOTHER 1: “Giistrikto na ron sa akong bana ang pag-eskuwela sa among dalagang anak.” MOTHER 2. “Mao sab ang gibuhat namo sa akong dalagang estudyante. Sus nisuki man. Ngano kunong but-an siya nga edaran na man siya.” MOTHER 1: “Hain man adtong dagaha nimo, Mare? Kadto bang gipaangkan sa iyang maestro?” MOTHER 2: “Saba diha oy. Klarohon pa gyud na niya.”
