The Senate squabble

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

“Apples are now within reach by everyone,” says this news story here. But they can’t drive the doctors away.

***

It says here that pocketless garments are in vogue in many fashion centers of Europe. The pickpockets need not worry. The shoulder bags are richer than the mere pockets.

***

The squabble in the Senate has taken a turn for the romantic. The Senate President who is ganged up on by four or five of his honorable colleagues is being suspected of having romantic dalliance with his lady chief of staff.

***

This dalliance thing is deviating from the original issue. But that’s OK coming as it does only a few days after a Chinese newspaper called us the most romantic people in the world.

***

The Senate President, said to be 89, said he’s too old for love. But he expressed willingness to take an erectile dysfunction test. Ha?

***

Here’s a more important news. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the “nemesis” of the anti-government militants, says the economy of the Philippines is on the up and up, thus, validating the Aquino admin’s claim that the country is enjoying some sort of economic boom.

***

According to the IMF, the new growth estimates or figures for the Philippines are stronger than the aggregate growth figures for the ASEAN 5 — composed of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. PNoy could be right when he said Phl is evolving as Asia’s economic tiger.

***

This is a reason for celebration. It’s not everyday that we get to read news like this, news that brightens our day and our hope for the future.

***

The Social Security System (SSS) has posted a P30 billion net revenue, exceeding its target of P28 billion. If it continues to exceed its targeted revenue, will its pensioners be blessed with increased monthly pension?

***

Pepe Pimentel, the showbiz personality who entertained the nation for decades with his high class joke, has passed away. Some fastidious TV show watchers called him a brilliant comedian whose jokes even his mother-in-law enjoyed.

***

OVERHEARD. One high school girl said to a friend in another school: “Duna koy classmate nga 13 years old pa gani lima nay uyab.” Friend: “OK ra na, Day, oi. Ako bitaw tulo man akoang uyab.” Friend No. 1: “OK ra bitaw basta di lang mo pahilabot.” Friend No. 2: “Naunsa man ka, Day, oi. Basta daghan ta’g uyab makapahilabot gyud ta.” Friend No.1 left in a huff speechless.
