Cebu: Zero infra projects under PNoy!

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

Our special presentation tonight on our talk show “Straight from the Sky”, we are honored and blessed to have with us Miss Tourism International Ms. Rizzini Alexis Gomez, who recently won her prestigious title in Malaysia. In our 12-years doing this talk show, this is a rare experience for me as the only Beauty Queen we ever interviewed was Ms. Gemma Cruz-Araneta who won the Miss International Title way back in 1964.

What makes this interview more exciting is that, Ms. Rizzini Gomez comes from Cebu and lives in Cordova. Therefore, she is a homegrown Beauty Queen with whom we are all proud of. We thank the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel for preparing the Continental Club as our venue for this interview and of course, PR Man Pete Dacuycuy who introduced Miss Rizzini to us. So watch this wonderful interview with Miss Tourism International on SkyCable’s channel 61 at 8:00PM, replay on MyTV channel 30 at 9:00PM.

No we won’t bother you with the details of the Sinulog Weekend as you can read those in the front pages of The Freeman. Also because we have been requested by our editor for an early deadline. Anyway with the Sinulog over and done with… the only celebration left on the horizon is the start of the Chinese New Year and yep… Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, it is back to business for all of us… especially the unfinished ones.

Of course by now, the most unfinished business of all is the still unresolved case of the suspension of Cebu Governor Gwen F. Garcia. I really don’t know why the Court of Appeals (CA) is taking their sweet time in resolving this issue. Alas, because of subjudice issues, we cannot even comment on the merits of this case more so that we have a Liberal Party (LP) members who are acting like Lords who believe that (like the communist party in Russia so connected to the government by an umbilical cord) they can file cases against anyone and the Judiciary would side with them.

I’m beginning to doubt that the CA might just ride along in the next six months… until the case of the suspension of Gov. Gwen Garcia becomes moot and academic. As gubernatorial candidate Hilario “JunJun” Davide, III told Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III, they are now ready for the 2013 elections. Of course, the LP is ready… the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) will assure them of their victory even if they don’t campaign at all.

The LPs, yes including those belonging to the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) must think and believe that we Cebuanos are so stupid that we would vote them into power even if under their watch during the Aquino Presidency, Cebu… NEVER got any infrastructure development.

Yes, it is time for Cebuanos to ponder and consider…What did we get by voting Pres. Aquino to Malacañang? Zero! For example, I fully supported the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as proposed by then Mayor and now Rep. Tomas Osmeña, but his President PNoy shot down his own project. Of course, they’ll tell you that it is just another delay. But the reality is…the BRT project has not yet been approved and knowing the gestation period of any government project, it would take another three years before construction can even start. By that time, we will already have a new government.

Of course people will tell you that Pres. Aquino approved already the bidding for the new Mactan Airport Terminal project under his pet Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) a.k.a. PNoy’s Pet Project. But let me remind you that I was still a member of the Board at the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) when we conceptualized this project. So whether you like it or not, it is not a project coming from the Aquino Regime.

So when the LPs or the BO-PKs come to your neighborhood seeking your vote… ask them “What projects have you given Cebu in the last three years?” I just hope that they won’t lie to you when they give you an answer. We don’t have the luxury of time… and Cebu badly needs infrastructure projects YESTERDAY to ease our worsening traffic situation.

Meanwhile there’s still another unfinished issues… this time it is about the candidacy of my good friend Councilor Jun Pe, whom we all know is constitutionally prohibited to run for another term. But he is challenging the system and running for the same office in another district. I don’t know what’s happening to this case… but the stories I got is that, Jun Pe’s case was given to a young Comelec Commissioner who was once a legal counsel of the Aquino-Roxas tandem. That means Jun Pe stands a good chance to win.

But wait! Just because the BO-PK or LP has good connections with the Comelec, it doesn’t change the fact that there is a constitutional prohibition that prevents Jun Pe from running for the same post in another district. Lady Justice as we all know is blindfolded… but under the PNoy government, she is taking a peek from her not-so-tight blindfold.
