Pol dynasties: OK no problem?

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Philippine Star

The PhilSTAR headline says: “Political Dynasties to Dominate 2013 Elections.” That’s a given. Political dynasties have been here for a long time and have been dominating elections despite the raps and criticisms against them.

***

The Palace is right. The voters should decide what to do with these political dynasties. What else could the voters do?

***

The rise or fall of these dynasties are in the hands of the voters. Supposedly. But the problem is some voters’ hands are controlled by dynasty kingpins.

***

In La Union there is a family or clan where 13 members of them are running for various posts in the 2013 polls. So what? This is Philippine election, you still don’t know?

***

“There’s nothing wrong with political dynasties,” says Noy Temiong, my sidewalk philosopher friend. “It’s wrong only to those who can’t build up their own dynasty.”

***

There’s so much fuss over the Cybercrime Prevention Law. Not “fussing” over the law are the internet café denizens (or netizens?) mostly students, who are not fully aware of what the law is all about.

***

“Can this law stop the piso-piso Facebook operation in many of the barangays?” asked a schoolteacher many of whose pupils and/or students have Facebook accounts.

***

“The so-called piso-piso Facebook operation,” explained the teacher, “got its name from the one-peso coin dropped into a modified computer to enable anyone to enjoy Facebook fun.”

***

A good friend of mine (who asked me not to mention his name) called up last Oct. 9 to say: “Your newspaper is very mouth-watering this morning.” He explained: “Three full pages of delicious foods.”

***

He mentioned the food articles of Mayen Angbetic Tan, Honey Jarque Loop, and our regular food columnist Dr. Nestor Alonzo II.

***

“I call those featured foods ‘foods for thought’ because I can’t afford them,” my friend said.

OVERHEARD. A member of a Catholic women’s organization and a neighbor were heard talking about religion. She (the member of the organization) said: “Nagkadaghan na ang mga bag-ong religion kadaghanan nila kontra sa Katoliko.” Reply: “Bitaw. Pero bisan pa nagdasok gihapon ang mga Katoliko sa ilang mga simbahan matag Domingo ug pista.”
