Benefits for the housemaid

HOUSEMAID’S LAW. The so-called Kasambahay Law (or Housemaid’s Law) is about to see approval. Under this law, a household worker must be a member of the SSS, Pag-ibig and PhilHealth, must receive a 13th month pay, must be given a day-off in a week, must enjoy sick leave with pay, and other benefits.

RESULT. The head of a family with two housemaids shook his head when asked to comment on the upcoming law. “Dili ko ka afford ani oy,” he said. “Samtang wa pa mahingpit nga balaod kini, papaulion ko nalang ning akong duha ka maid.”
