Cebu Solidarity with Urban Poor supports the call to stop demolitions

READERS VIEWS - Fr. Vicente Dayao, Spokesperson Cebu Solidarity with the Urban Poor - The Philippine Star

Leaders and representatives from 24 concerned organizations and communities in Cebu are happy to have responded to the call of Cebu Archbishop Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, DD to work together as a community in addressing the plight of Cebu urban poor who are facing widespread demolitions.

Last September 8, 2012, on the birthday of Mary, who in her Magnificat acclaimed God who “lifted up the lowly,” we have formed the Cebu Solidarity with the Urban Poor.

As more than 30,000 households face demolition in Metro Cebu, we made a unity statement calling to stop all demolitions, and for a dialogue between the local government and the affected sectors.

In particular, we support the call of the 32 households of Sitios Lubi, Mabuhay, and Nangka in Barangay Luz, Cebu City to stop the demolition set this month; and for the Homeowners’ Associations pushing for the demolition to dialogue with the affected families.

Representatives from the following signed the unity statement: Apostolic Sisters of St. John, Archdiocesan Campus Ministry, Association of Women Religious of Cebu, Augustinian Sisters of Divine Love, Buhisan Parish, Carmelite Missionaries,  Cenacle Sisters, Congregation of St. John, MINSAC-Cebu, PPC Mabolo, Capuchin Tertiary Sisters, Catholic Women’s League, Daughters of Charity, Order of Augustinian Recollects, Order of St. Augustine, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-Recoletos, Presentation Sisters, Religious of the Virgin Mary, Spiritual Pastoral Formation Year, San Carlos Seminary College, St. Cecilia’s College, Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Task Force on Urban Conscientization-AMRSP Cebu, and United Church of Christ in the Philippines-Cebu.

The Cebu Solidarity with the Urban Poor prays that this endeavor will be pleasing to God who wants everyone to have the “fullness of life.”
